The parent company of Racing TV and GBI Racing has named former Camelot UK CEO Nigel Railton as its new chair, with the appointment taking effect on 1 October.

Railton will succeed Conor Grant, who has chaired the racing media rights business since April 2023. Grant will remain with Racecourse Media Group (RMG) for a one-month handover period until 1 November.

RMG non-executive director James Sanderson said Railton brings an “outstanding blend of commercial leadership, governance experience and strategic vision” from his time leading businesses across regulated and consumer-facing industries.

Railton currently serves as chair of Post Office Ltd, having taken up the role in May 2024. He is also a trustee of The Social Mobility Foundation.

Previously, he was CEO of Camelot UK, operator of the National Lottery, where he oversaw the business's digital expansion and growth in sales and returns to good causes.

Before that, Railton served as CEO of Camelot Global, where he developed the company's international business and secured lottery contracts across Ireland, Europe and the US. A qualified accountant, he has also held senior finance, operations and strategy positions at Railtrack, Black & Decker and Daewoo Cars.

“I am delighted to be appointed chair of Racecourse Media Group. RMG is a highly respected organisation with a proven track record of delivering value for its shareholder racecourses and helping to promote the sport to audiences around the world,” Railton said.

“The media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, creating both opportunities and challenges. I look forward to working with the Board, Nick Mills and the wider team to build on the company's success, strengthen its partnerships and support the long-term growth and sustainability of racing.”

Sanderson added: “His (Railton’s) track record of delivering growth, embracing innovation and building strong relationships with stakeholders makes him an ideal fit for RMG and our shareholder racecourses. As we look to the future of racing media rights and fan engagement, Nigel's leadership will be a tremendous asset to the business and the sport.”

RMG CEO Nick Mills also paid tribute to outgoing chair Grant, saying he had made a “significant and lasting contribution” to the organisation.

“Conor leaves RMG having made a significant and lasting contribution to the business. His guidance, support and leadership have been invaluable, and we are extremely grateful for everything he has done for the organisation and our shareholder racecourses,” Mills said.

“At the same time, we are thrilled to welcome Nigel to RMG. I look forward to working with him as we continue to grow our audiences, strengthen our partnerships and maximise value for our racecourses.”
