Gambling.com appoints Shaun Wallace as head of smarter gambling
The affiliate has appointed Shaun Wallace, better known as the “Dark Destroyer” on ITV quiz show The Chase, as its first head of smarter gambling.
The appointment forms part of Gambling.com’s latest awareness campaign around its “Smarter gambling starts here” message. Dominic Celica, director of PR at Gambling.com, highlighted that Wallace had built his career on “knowledge, discipline and knowing exactly when to get involved”, which is “precisely the mindset” the affiliate wants players to apply to their own gambling decisions.
Wallace is a former barrister and champion of the BBC general knowledge quiz Mastermind, having appeared as one of The Chasers on the ITV programme since 2009. In his new role, he will feature in exclusive Gambling.com content across multiple channels, with the campaign focusing on informed decision-making and preparation before gambling.
Commenting on the appointment, Wallace said: “I'm delighted to join the team at Gambling.com as their head of smarter gambling. It mattered to me to understand exactly how they go about promoting gambling before I said yes.
“I've seen under the bonnet, and it's a dedicated team of professionals set on educating and informing their customers before the action takes place. Information is king, and that's what I've based my career on. Starting your online gambling journey with them is the smartest option, with comparisons and tested recommendations at the core of what they do, you’ll find they live up to their promise.”
Grandstand, the parent group behind Gambling.com, recently reported Q2 revenue of $37.8 million (£27.9 million/€32.7 million), down 5% year-on-year, while adjusted EBITDA fell 44% to $7.7 million amid headwinds across its organic search channels.
