The live scores app has rolled out a new rating system in collaboration with the legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Now an ice hockey goaltender for the Haringey Huskies, Cech is renowned for being one of the Premier League’s greatest goalkeepers, holding the record for the cleanest sheets ever claimed in the league and shutting out opponents 202 times. He also works with Flashscore on the Big Pete documentary interview series, launched in March 2026.

Commenting on the initiative, Cech highlighted that the latest Flashscore rating is not “a journalist’s opinion” but “a data algorithm” that evaluates a specific match once it knows which role a player was active in.

Joining a board of experts, Cech helped build the rating framework, consolidating more than 70 statistics into a single grade and taking into account far more than just goals and assists.

In the new system, standout match moments such as big chances created or errors leading to goals play a key role in defining a player’s rating in addition to regular stats, as do their exceptional abilities, including dominance in duels and outstanding dribbling. All players are judged on their actual role within a team, and all information is brought together in the new player card, where users can find the context behind the player’s rating. Players must play at least 10 minutes in a match in order to be rated.

“When I played, ratings felt arbitrary. Whether it was a 6.0 or a 7.0, you never really knew what moved the needle. However, the new Flashscore rating shows the workings, and that changes everything,” Cech added.

“No more goalscorers getting inflated ratings for one moment, while a midfielder who runs the game gets a forgettable 6.8. The rating isn’t fixed at kick-off and it doesn’t just apply at full-time. It updates continuously as the match unfolds. Every bonus is listed on the Player Card, where you can see exactly why a player got their number. There is no black box.”

Alongside Flashscore Rating, the Prague-headquartered company has also rolled out other key improvements, including Follow News notifications, FIFA rankings and the release of Momentum 1.5, which offers a significantly upgraded visualisation of match dynamics.
