Genius Sports to acquire Legend for up to $1.2 billion
The sports data and technology company has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire gaming media network Legend for up to $1.2 billion (£900 million/ €1 billion), including $900 million payable at closing and an earnout of up to $300 million.
Founded by Nick Kisberg more than 20 years ago, Legend is the parent company behind over 25 global affiliate brands, including Covers.com, which it acquired in 2020 as its first move into sports betting. iGBA also understands that the group owns or part owns Casino Guru and Casino.org.
In 2025, Legend generated 320 million annual visits from 118 million unique visitors, with more than two-thirds returning on a regular basis. Commenting on the deal, Kisberg said he is “immensely proud of” what the team has built and “the decades of hard work” that led to the acquisition.
“Joining forces with Genius Sports brings together two world-class teams, unlocks unparalleled growth opportunities for our partners and products and gives us an even stronger platform to scale,” Kisberg said.
Formed in 2016 following a merger between betting technology and data supplier Betgenius and sports data and software business SportingPulse International, Genius Sports is an official partner powering the global sports, betting and media ecosystem, with products used in more than 150 countries. It works with over 1,000 sports organisations, including leagues, teams, sportsbooks, brands and broadcasters such as the NFL, English Premier League, DraftKings and ESPN.
With preliminary unaudited estimates of FY25 revenue of $669 million and adjusted EBITDA of $136 million, the acquisition is projected to lift Genius Sports’ FY26 revenue guidance to around $1.1 billion and adjusted EBITDA to between $320 million and $330 million. The group has also updated its 2028 performance benchmark, targeting revenue of $1.6 billion.
Mark Locke, Genius Sports CEO, added: “This deal accelerates our strategic and financial objectives, supercharges fan monetization and builds a fully integrated sports and gaming media network.”
“For Genius Sports and our global partners, it delivers more data, more audience, more inventory and greater monetization of sports fans. The acquisition of Legend will drive higher margins and stronger free cash flow, positioning Genius Sports to immediately transform the market and grow the size and scale of our business.”
