Catena agrees first US mainstream media deal with NJ.com

Catena Media is to provide New Jersey news portal NJ.com with online casino and sports betting content under a multi-year agreement with owner Advance Local, its first major media tie-up in the US

The Stockholm-listed affiliate group said the content from its North American network of writers would keep NJ.com readers updated on trends and opportunities in OSB and casino and “proactively promote a safe betting culture in North America.”

Advance Local subsidiary NJ Advance Media previously entered a content partnership with Catena rival Better Collective which ran from September 2019.

Catena’s VP of North American content operations Dustin Gouker called the agreement “a forward-looking opportunity” to engage a broader audience in the Garden State market and nationally. The deal is expected to be earnings enhancing from late Q3, Catena added.

Catena entered the New Jersey market in 2017 following the acquisition of the PlayUSA Media assets in December 2016, which included PlayNJ.com and Legal Sports Report.

In June of this year it folded the long-running Online Poker Report site into the Bonus.com portal acquired as part of the September 2021 transaction for i15 Media, a start-up founded in early 2020 by the PlayUSA Media co-founders.
