Licence To Affiliate - August/September 2020

The political momentum behind licensing grew this summer, with the House of Lords report on gambling reform recommending all GB affiliates be licensed by the GC before they enter into contracts with gambling operators, which would no longer be allowed to transact with unlicensed affiliates.

Trade body RAiG also threw its weight behind a “licensing or registration regime”, with CEO of founder member Better Collective, Jesper SØgaard, making his case to the iGB Live! Online audience for ‘light touch’ registration and compliance with local marketing laws which do not raise the entry barriers too high.

The drive for minimum standards from within the sector is clearly coming from operators and the scale affiliates. But for the long-tail to use this as an excuse not to participate in this dialogue increases the risk of restrictive regulations being imposed on them that go way beyond what is required to protect players.

Time to get involved.
